MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! In this blog we reflect on some of the biggest achievements the surf club has had in the 2025 season. We also find out who the special guest was that visited the Nippers.
GENERAL NEWS
A BUSY FIRST HALF OF THE SEASON!
From our first patrol of the season on September 28, our lifesavers have worked on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays to keep beachgoers safe!
As we hit the fourth month of our patrol season, it is time we look back over our last year. Here, we have chosen our top 3 accomplishments of 2025:
PREPARE FOR THE DAY, PREPARE FOR THE CONDITIONS (Issue 02)

On August 23, Surf Lifesaving NSW arrived at Port Kembla Surf Club to deliver the safety program, ‘Gone Fishing’, to the fishing community. The program featured a range of different workshops to help educate the public. The day was a huge success and reminded the fishing community on the importance of wearing a lifejacket.
115 YEARS LATER (Issue 03)

2025 marked a significant milestone for the club. For 115 years, Illawarra locals have been devoted to keeping Port Kembla Beach safe. Although the name and club colours may have changed, lifesavers have been able to maintain the club’s main goal through responsibility, leadership and community for 115 years.
GOLD FOR THE QUIRKY ERKS (Issue 07)

The Reserve Female Surf Boat team participated in the Warilla Bowls Surf Boat Premiership on December 6. This was their first competition of the season and took home some impressive results. Throughout the day the team competed in three different heats where they took home gold for all three. These outstanding results meant they became the female reserve grade winners, an impressive result for their first comp rowing together!
MOMENTS ON PATROL
25/12/25

The cold weather made Port Kembla beach almost unrecognisable without the large crowds which usually descend upon the beach on Christmas day. This surprising outcome meant the patrol was able to play a couple games of cards and have an easy day looking after the beach.
NIPPERS
SANTA CLAUS MAKES A SPLASH AT PORT KEMBLA BEACH!

Excitement was in the air for the Nippers with only eleven more sleeps until Christmas day!
The morning started as usual with the Nippers practising their surf safety skills on the beach and in the water. However, as Nippers came to an end, there was commotion coming from the shore. Past the breaks was none other than Santa Claus himself, leaving behind his sleigh and instead, arriving on the IRB! The Nippers flocked to his side as he spread not only the Christmas cheer but presents of lollies as well.

Santa has joined the Nippers on the last session of the season for many years, even going as far as saying it was one of his favourite places in the world to travel too!
“I always have a great time coming to Port Kembla Beach as everyone is so kind and welcoming!”
The Nippers committee hopes everyone has a great break and are looking forward to seeing everyone on February 1!
