NIPPERS

Nippers is for kids aged 5 to 14 years old and occurs most Sunday’s during the season. Port Kembla Nippers do not currently compete in carnivals, instead focusing on a relaxed and fun environment where children can make friends, be active and learn how to enjoy the beach safely, as they advance through the various age groups. Nippers participate in activities such as ocean swims, board paddles, flags, sprints and educational lessons. Additionally learning and applying lifesaving skills, and the basics of resuscitation and first aid.

Thank you to all the families who have registered for the 2025/26 Nippers season! Registrations are now officially closed.

 

We do have some limited availability in the older age groups. If you are interested, please contact us at portkemblanippers@gmail.com to inquire about a spot.

 

Please note: all age groups from 6 to 9 are at full capacity.

Note: Returning Members may need to create a Family Group before renewing. When logged into the members area this is available under Memberships > Family

Note:

a.     At least one Parent/Guardian is required to join as an General member

b.    For Nippers that have not been registered previously, a copy of their

        birth certificate should be emailed to portkemblanippers@gmail.com

c.     Once registered, no refunds will be available

ACTIVE KIDS VOUCHERS

Unfortunately, we are unable to accept active kids vouchers.

 

POOL PROFICIENCY 2025/26

Don't forget the Nippers Proficiencies are on:​

  • Proficiency 1 - Sat 18 Oct

  • Proficiency 2 - Sun 19 Oct

Participation in the correct age group is mandatory for all children, and no

exceptions can be made. See table below for age group requirements:

U14's

U14 Surf Rescue Certificate (SRC) training will be conducted during the nipper days. U14’s are required to be able to complete a 200m swim within 5 minutes and a 3-minute survival float. This is conducted on Nippers proficiencies days.

 

Once the U14s have successfully completed their SRC, they will have the opportunity to assist with water safety and beach patrols.

CADET MEMBERSHIP: THE NEXT STEP AFTER SRC

For those who have achieved their Surf Rescue Certificate (SRC), Cadet membership is available for the upcoming season. Cadets can register by selecting the "Cadet Membership" at registration. A parent membership is not required for Cadets, but family involvement is always encouraged within the club. Cadets are a vital component of the Nippers community, performing essential water safety duties and providing support to younger Nippers throughout the season.

AGE MANAGER

Age managers supervise and instruct Nippers on the beach and provide guided lessons of lifesaving skills and take the Nippers through a range of activities. 

WATER SAFTEY.jpeg

WATER SAFETY

Water Safety ensures Nippers safety whilst in the water and also offers guidance and encouragement; this could be on boards or swimming. Bronze or Surf Rescue Certificate proficient lifesavers are necessary for water-based Nippers activities to run.
