ISSUE 05

The clubhouse’s new renovations are looking good, yet there is still more to come! Check out the new plans for the boat sheds in this issue! Get to know the Reserve Male Surf Boat Team ahead of their next competition!

GENERAL NEWS

RENOVATIONS CONTINUE

Over the past two years, the club has received grants to upgrade our clubhouse. Upgrades have included the installment of a bar, a fully functioning kitchen, a new courtyard and renovated bathrooms. The inside is looking good, however, the outside deserves some love as well.

The committee has regular meetings with the council to continue the design and development process of the new shed. At the moment, the design features a two story shed to divide the equipment into two sections. The ground floor will hold at least three surf boats, complete with storage for other equipment.

IRBs, ATVs, the patrol trailer and rescue boards will be located on the first floor. This will also contain an operational first aid room as well as a bathroom.

These renovations are not only aesthetically pleasing, but will also improve the functionality of our club.

20 YEARS SUPPORTING THE CLUB

ree

For the past two decades, NSW Ports have provided sponsorship for the Surf Club. NSW Ports have assisted the club in purchasing vital equipment to support our weekly patrols, including funding for a new all-terrain vehicle (ATV) and an inflatable rescue boat (IRB). Port Kembla’s rich and successful history in surf sports has been supported through the purchase of surf boats. NSW Ports is set to continue supporting the club at least until the end of the year.

MOMENTS ON PATROL

2/11/2025

Patrol 5 was on duty all day, monitoring conditions along the shoreline. It was a pleasant day with no significant issues to report, and the team maintained a visible presence to reassure beachgoers.

The day started off nicely for Patrol 9 until they had to close the beach due to hazardous winds for Patrol 2 to take over. Be sure to check out the next blog to see what our lifesavers get up to on patrol when the beach is closed.

Team Members & Positions:

Nathan Boscaro (Sweep)

Mitch Hogan (Stroke)

Corey Jackson (Second Stroke)

Rhys Bowdich (Bow)

Simon Rocchi (Second Bow)

How long have you been rowing together?

Mitch: This is our first season together as a crew. We only formed a few months ago... I'm making a return to the boat after a year off and will rejoin Corey from past seasons having rowed together. Rocchi and Bowdo have bounced around the boat section for years. Bosco has also been dancing around the back on the big oar for a number of seasons too. So it's great to have plenty of experience in the boat for this season.

What are you looking forward to in this season?

Mitch: I’m looking forward to getting back in the boat after having a season off and travelling away with our families at the Aussies.

Corey: Looking forward to the boat training sessions. It has been nice to be able to row twice a week most weeks.

Bosco: Getting to as many carnivals as possible subject to my wife’s approval.

Bowdo: After a few years off, jumping into an experienced and competitive crew with the possibility of getting positive results straight away.

Simon: Looking forward to Aussies.

What is your favourite memory rowing together?

Bosco: Cheering and watching one of other reserve crews go out to sea at Mollymook ASRL 2019. We thought they were one of the only crews to get out, but a monster wave swallowed them whole.

Mitch: My favourite memory of rowing would have to be representing Australia in 2023 and getting to travel to New Zealand to show the Kiwi's how it's done!

Corey: Representing Australia in 2023 and having the New Zealand supporters singing their anthem against you on their home beach.

Bowdo: All the travelling across the country for rowing comps — the road trips, the flights, everything has led to some awesome memories.

Simon: 2019 Mollymook carnage.

You can watch the Reserve Male Team compete on November 29 at Wollongong City!
